The TB Pre-Conference at ICASA 2025 is designed as a continental platform to reposition tuberculosis within Africa’s political, financial, and public health priorities. This budget justification outlines the required resources to host a high-level, inclusive, and impactful convening attended by policymakers, civil society, global health institutions, TB survivors, youth, researchers, and development partners.
The pre-conference is aligned with ICASA standards and complements Africa’s commitments toward the 2023 UN High-Level Meeting (HLM) TB targets.
The ICASA 2025 TB Pre-Conference aims to strengthen Africa’s response to TB and TB–HIV co-infection. With TB remaining the leading cause of death among people living with HIV, the pre-conference will provide a focused platform for dialogue, innovation, and action.
This event will bring together policymakers, researchers, health workers, civil society, and affected communities to explore new diagnostics, shorter treatment regimens, emerging vaccines, and successful community-based approaches. It will also promote stronger integration of TB and HIV services.
A key goal is to boost political commitment and domestic investment in TB, support accountability toward UNHLM and End TB Strategy targets, and address gaps caused by declining global funding. The pre-conference will foster partnerships, mobilize resources, and drive coordinated, multisectoral actions that advance TB elimination efforts across Africa.
